Ashby Hastings Cricket Club 1st XI v Burbage on Sat 17 Jun 2017 at 1pm
Ashby Hastings Cricket Club Won by 171 runs
Match report
Ashby Hastings maintain unbeaten run
Ashby Hasting 281-4
Burbage 110 all out
Ashby win by 171 runs
Ashby again were victorious as they cruised to a comprehensive 171 run win against struggling Burbage.
The game started in a strange fashion as the visitors were late in arriving, this meant that Ashby claimed the toss and elected to bat first. The sun was beating down on the Bath Grounds and the pitch was very flat. This was the first time Ashby had elected to bat first and this showed the confidence that is running through the side at the minute.
The home side started well and scored quickly. Openers, Tom Yates and Spencer Clark looked untroubled and ran superbly. They found the boundary at regular intervals and the scoring rate was above a run a ball throughout. The pair put on over 150 for the first wicket, before Clark was bowled for 76.
Eddy Ikin was the man to join Yates at the crease and this just increased the scoring rate even more. He was aggressive and raced to his half century, playing some very nice sweep shots along the way. He hit a six to the longest part of the boundary and soon caught Yates up.
In a moment of madness, Ikin decided a switch hit would be the best scoring option, this ended up with him being caught at cover for 84. At this point the game seemed to be beyond Burbage and it was more a question of when would Hastings declare. Yates eventually decided that 281 off 34 overs would be enough and he walked off into the changing room on 91 not out.
Ashby had 11 overs to bowl before tea. They wanted to take a couple of quick wickets before the break and this is exactly what they did. Opening paceman Mike Davies took 2 wickets, both bowled and Eddy Ikin chipped in with one of his own, caught excellently by Chris Beck at gully.
After break it was the spin duo of Beck and Perkins who wrapped up the win for Ashby. Beck bowled superbly and the batsmen did not know how to play him. He finished with 5 wickets for just 6 runs, wrapping up the 30 points for the hosts.
This result is exactly what Ashby needed as they visit Loughborough Greenfields next week. This clash between first and second in the league could be the most important game of the season for Ashby. They will go into the game with confidence and determination to continue their perfect start to the season.
