Match report Ashby Hastings vs Earl Shilton 17/05/08Ashby Hastings captain Tom Yates lost the toss and Ashby got put into bat. After a very shakey start Ashby were 4 for 1 after 2. Shafiq Bhutta being bowled by a good Yorker. Byron Ovenstone and Tom Yates steadied the ship and after a few overs rain stopped play for 90 odd minutes. Ashby were 27 for 1 after 8 at that stage. The rain subsided and the game was reduced to a 36 over game. Ashby’s batsman were at a massive disadvantage with the game being reduced so dramatically but Tom Yates and Byron were well up for the challenge. Byron Ovenstone had a couple booming cover drives that over to get the run rate up. There was no looking back after that with Ashby going at 6 to 8 an over with ease. Byron Ovenstone got his 50 off 40 balls and Tom followed shortly after. Tom Yates got out shortly after his and Byron’s 150 partnership. Ashby were 155 for 2 after 29. Tom Yates digging deep and getting another well played 56 for the home team. Ollie Hunt was next in to bat and got a very quick 22 off 11. Ben Evans was next in and was just dabbing singles and getting Byron on strike who was hitting the ball very well. Byron got his hundred in the 2nd to last over of Ashby’s innings. Ben Evans got out on the 2nd to last ball of the innings and Jimmy Neal got out off the last. Byron Ovenstone finished the day on 105 not out off 90 balls. Ashby finished on 205 for 5 in their 36 overs. Ashby came into bowl and were fired up. Matthew Ryan struck early again for Ashby. Earl Shilton never looked like they were ever going to even try win the game or even get any runs at all. With Matthew Ryan bowling with venom from the town end and Jimmy Neal giving him some good support from the rail way end tied the away side down. Jimmy Neal struck 4 times for the home side and finished with figures of 12 overs 4 for 36. Earl Shilton looked like they had closed up shop so Tom decided to change it up and try get some wickets. He brought on Byron from the town end but that still did not change the game so Matthew Ryan was brought back into the attack and him and Jimmy bowled to 5 slips 2 gully’s and a silly point for the last 6 overs of the Earl Shilton innings. The game ended in a winning draw for Ashby. Earl Shilton finished the day on 120 for 7 in 36 overs. Matthew Ryan finished with figures of 14 overs 8 maidens 25runs and 2 wickets. Jimmy Neal finished with figures of 12 overs no maidens 36 runs and 4 wickets.Ashby winning 18 points and Earl Shilton finished with 3.
