Ashby Hastings Cricket Club 1st XI v Twycross on Sat 29 Apr 2017 at 1pm
Ashby Hastings Cricket Club Won By 9 Wickets
Match report
ASHBY MAKE IT BACK TO BACK WINS
Twycross 162-8
Ashby Hastings 163-1
Ashby win by 9 wickets
Ashby Hastings’ second game of the season had a very similar look to it as their opener. They won the toss for the second week running and again asked their opponents to bat first. Similar to last week Richard Lewis struck early, bowling Allman for a duck. Lewis and Davies kept it tight, however Twycross’ opening batsman, Ward, looked dangerous at times.
Ashby stayed patient and Ikin chipped in with his first wicket of the season removing Beestone for 15. Ward continued to bat positively and he made 89 before being removed by Ashby’s overseas Chris Beck. This wicket slowed the visitor’s run rate considerably. Chris Beck and Sam Perkins bowled beautifully in tandem and took wickets frequently. Beck finished with 2 for 26 and Perkins finished with 3 wickets for 24 runs.
On a fairly decent pitch with a quick outfield, the total of 162 posted by Twycross looked under par.
In reply, Ashby started well. Opening batsman Spencer Clark raced to 18 runs before being beaten for pace by Machin, who got his man LBW. This wicket spurred Ashby on, and captain Tom Yates made his second half century of the season.
Eddy Ikin was there to support Yates and he batted superbly for 75 not out. This coupled with 60 not out for Yates helped Ashby cruise to victory with 17 overs and 9 wickets to spare.
Ashby Hastings could not have wished for a better start following last year’s relegation and early signs are very positive for the team from the Bath Grounds. Next week will see them travel to Stoke Golding.
