Stoke Golding v Ashby Hastings Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 06 May 2017 at 1pm
Ashby Hastings Cricket Club Won by 8 Wickets
Match report
Stoke Golding 181-9
Ashby Hastings 186-2
Ashby win by 8 wickets
Ashby Hastings beat Stoke Golding to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
Stand in captain for the day, Jake Poole, won the toss and chose to bowl first, a plan that had worked for the Ashby side so far this season. Ashby struck early when they dismissed the Stoke Golding opener for zero. As in previous weeks Mike Davies and Richard Lewis kept it tight, despite the dangerous Crawford scoring 45 for the home side.
Crawford was joined at the crease by Waters and the pair started to score runs and frustrate Ashby. The ever reliable Richard Lewis changed Ashby’s fortunes with a superb delivery which bowled Crawford. This again allowed the visitors to restrict scoring.
Ashby then turned to spin, with Sam Perkins and Chris Beck. The duo slowed the run rate considerably and also managed to pick up wickets. Perkins got 3 wickets to take his tally to ten for the season and Chris Beck got himself a wicket and deserved a couple more.
Richard Lewis came back on towards the end and picked up a couple more wickets and even managed to break a stump and bail in the process. The home side finished their innings on 181 from their 45 overs.
Hastings’s reply started well with Spencer Clark and Chris Beck putting on a century partnership. Clark batted aggressively and hit some lovely strokes before being dismissed for 43. New Zealander, Chris Beck, looked comfortable throughout the run chase and scored with ease. He was joined by Eddy Ikin who also scored very freely and the run chase never looked in doubt.
Ikin was dismissed with Ashby just 5 runs short of the target. This meant that Ashby’s own finisher, Jake Poole, joined Beck at the crease and the pair knocked off the runs. Chris Beck’s six to finish the game meant he finished on 94 not out.
Ashby host Long Whatton next week and will look to continue their fine start to the season.
